At JBC Psychology, our founder, Julia Burke, is on a mission to bring proven psychology therapies to the Darling Downs.

With a deep passion for helping individuals navigate their mental health journey, Julia opened this practice to offer a positive and holistic experience, from the moment you schedule your first appointment with a simple phone call to achieving your personalised therapy outcomes.
Julia is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of those who call this beautiful part of Queensland home.
Julia specialises in working with adults facing a range of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
She recognises the unique needs of rural communities and tailors her approach accordingly.

Our core therapies include:
-
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT): Helping you understand and manage your thoughts and emotions for a brighter outlook on life.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Guiding you to accept what can't be changed and commit to actions that improve your life.
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Offering relief from the weight of past traumatic experiences.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
CBT focuses on how our thoughts affect our feelings and behaviours.
It's not the situations themselves that cause our emotional reactions, but rather how we think about these situations.
Once you spot these troublesome thoughts, CBT teaches you to question and challenge the ones that make you feel bad, and how to find better, more helpful ways of thinking and responding to life's challenges.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is used by trained practitioners to help people recover from difficult or traumatic experiences.
After a thorough assessment, you'll be asked to discuss those distressing memories while watching the psychologist's hand move backwards and forwards across your visual field.

These specially guided eye movements, similar to those during REM sleep, are shown to help the brain process and heal from the distressing memories and experiences.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT that helps people improve their mental well-being.

It's not about changing who you are, but rather about accepting yourself and finding ways to live a more fulfilling life based on your values.

Clarifying your values and finding out what matters to you most helps you
deal with challenging thoughts and emotions, reduces their impact,
and encourages you to commit to meaningful actions to improve your life.
